It is an anti-caste and social justice movement within the Indian Muslim community, Pasmanda refers to OBC Muslims, Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Muslims, In India, above 85 percent Muslim community belongs to Pasmanda community and the rest 15 percent of Muslims belong to upper caste Muslims called Ashraf ( Ashraf is the Plural word of Sharif which means Noble or high born). Pasmanda movement challenging the Ashraf Muslims hegemony over socio-economic, cultural, religion, politics, media, and institution. Pasmanda movement came existence in 1998 by Ali Anwar Ansari who formed All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz, later he wrote the book Masawaat Ki Jung (Battle for equality) in 2001, which is the first major articulation document of Pasmanda movement.
